  Heart and Hands Doula Care

I am the mother of three wonderful sons and they have been such a blessing along with my husband of 34 years.  They have given me support through the last two plus decades to pursue my heart's desire to educate and support women, and their families, during their childbearing years.  I returned to college as a "non-traditional" student, meaning I attended classes with my son's classmates, and have received a Bachelors' Degree in Sociology and a Masters' Degree in Adult Education.

My education also includes certifications in breastfeeding education and childbirth education. I have taught perinatal classes since 1988, including sibling preparation, prepared childbirth, refresher childbirth, baby care, and breastfeeding education.

As a doula, I accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I have received education and certification for the birth doula role from DONA, Doula’s of North America International. I have assisted women through births, vaginal - natural and medicated, cesarean - planned and unplanned, and VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), since 1990.   In July of 2009 I became an Approved Birth Doula Trainer by DONA International.

I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort, and as needed, communication with clinical staff to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor.

I will provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, positioning, and other techniques for comfort.

The Heart and Hands photo is of Jennifer and her first son Ryan.  Jennifer reached down to bring Ryan to her and as he grabbed onto her thumb I was able to capture this photo.  Thank you Jennifer and Ryan for sharing your birth and photo.
